The Grandmother’s Greenhouse Native Plant Orchard is a landmark Blueberry River First Nations initiative that represents a long-term investment in Indigenous-led ecological restoration, environmental stewardship, and community prosperity.
Approved by Chief and Council, the project will produce locally adapted native seeds and plants to support land restoration efforts throughout Treaty 8 Territory while creating employment, training, and economic opportunities for Blueberry River First Nations members.
The official Groundbreaking Ceremony marked the beginning of this transformative project, bringing together Elders, Chief and Council, community members, industry partners, and honoured guests to celebrate a shared commitment to restoring the land from the ground up.
As one of the largest native plant orchards in Western Canada, the project will play a significant role in strengthening biodiversity, supporting government-required reclamation and restoration initiatives, preserving traditional ecological knowledge, and establishing a sustainable supply of native plant materials for generations to come.
