Native Seed

Grandmother’s Greenhouse specializes in the collection, processing, and supply of high-quality, locally sourced native seed for ecological restoration and reclamation projects. Our seed programs are designed to support the long-term recovery of ecosystems by providing plant materials that are genetically adapted to the environmental conditions of Northeast British Columbia and Treaty 8 territory.

Seeds are carefully collected from strong, naturally occurring plant populations that demonstrate resilience and adaptation to local climate and soil conditions. By sourcing seed from these populations, we help ensure that restoration projects use plant material that is well suited to the landscape and capable of establishing healthy, self-sustaining plant communities.

Our seed collection practices follow honourable harvest principles rooted in Indigenous stewardship values. This approach ensures that seed collection is conducted responsibly, respecting the land and maintaining the natural ability of plant populations to regenerate. Collection activities are carefully managed to protect plant communities while still supporting restoration needs.

Once collected, each seed lot is processed according to rigorous quality standards. Seeds undergo careful cleaning, sorting, and separation to remove debris and ensure purity, viability, and traceability. These processes help maintain the quality of the seed while preparing it for storage, propagation, or direct restoration use.

Because our seeds are adapted to the climate and ecological conditions found within Treaty 8 territory and its Biogeoclimatic Ecosystem Classification (BEC) zones, they support stronger plant establishment, improved biodiversity, and greater long-term resilience in restoration projects.
